House Bill 3 in Senate Ed Committee: Call to Action
House Bill 3 in Senate Ed Committee:
Call to Action
On Tuesday, April 16, House Bill 3, as passed by the Texas House of Representatives, will be heard by the Senate Education Committee. Though House Bill 3 now includes amendments related to G/T services, it still includes repeal of the G/T allotment (TEC Section 42.156).
The repeal of the G/T allotment means no direct requirements to fund G/T program would be in place; there would be no requirement to spend any minimum amount of funds on the G/T program, services, or students. TAGT asks Texas legislators reinstate the G/T allotment (Section 42.156). This allows for the G/T allotment to continue to support G/T students in Texas. Find more resources and FAQs here.
TAGT's Call to Action:
- Public testimony on HB3 in the Senate Education Committee will occur Tuesday, April 16, in Austin beginning at 9:00 am. We need you, G/T advocates, to consider testifying on behalf of the G/T allotment. If you would like to take part in this public testimony or would like to learn more about what this entails, contact TAGT as soon as possible so we can provide you with more information and guidance.
- Find your State Senator and their contact information.
- Write a letter to your State Senator. TAGT has provided a Sample Letter on HB3 that can serve as a base. However, we strongly recommend you customize/personalize this sample letter; form letters are not nearly as impactful. Find more resources and FAQs here.
- Share the TAGT Call to Action with your personal contacts.
